Young Bulgarians are increasingly favouring stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) over real estate as a way to build long-term wealth, a pan-European survey commissioned by fintech company Revolut shows, Dnevnik reported on September 16.

The survey, conducted by research company Dynata in June and supplemented with data from Revolut’s investment platform, found that 43% of Bulgarians aged 18-34 preferred capital markets, compared with 39% who chose property.

Real estate remains the most popular option overall and is especially favoured by women, with 45% ranking it as their top choice, compared with 34% of men. But younger investors are leading a shift, Revolut said, noting that more than half of its Bulgarian investors are aged 18–34.

Across Europe, 37% of respondents aged 18–24 said they preferred stocks and ETFs, outpacing the 30% who selected property. In contrast, real estate continues to dominate among those aged 45–64.

“There is a clear shift in how younger generations approach wealth,” said Rolandas Juteika, head of wealth and trading at Revolut, as quoted by BTA. “They’re starting earlier, investing smaller amounts, and using tools that were once only available to professional investors.”

Generation Z investors in Bulgaria also show a stronger taste for diversification, with ETFs making up 13% of their portfolios, the highest share among all age groups, the survey found.
