Tehran's temporary Friday prayer leader has reiterated Iran's claim over three disputed UAE islands and warned that disarming Hezbollah would be "very dangerous" for the Islamic world, DefaPress reported on September 12.

Ahmad Khatami told worshippers that Arab League foreign ministers had "repeated their old words again" regarding the three islands during Friday prayers at Tehran University.

"I tell them that the three islands have been and will remain Iran's territory; these words are Israel and America's game," he said.

His comments come after the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on September 8 urged Iran to relinquish control of the three islands and follow the 1971 agreement between the newly established UAE and Britain.

“Any decisions, practices, or actions taken by Iran on the three islands are null and void and do not alter the historical and legal facts that confirm the UAE’s right of sovereignty,” the GCC said in a final statement after its 165th ministerial council, adding, “an indivisible part of UAE territory.”

The three islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb in the Persian Gulf have been disputed between Iran and the UAE.

On Israel's recent attack on Qatar and the Hamas headquarters, the cleric said the "gene of this Zionist (Israeli) regime is bloodthirstiness", and it was born through bloodshed 80 years ago.

He claimed the US was involved in the strike on Doha, noting that the American Al Udeid base covers Qatar's airspace; however, he did not back up his comments with further evidence.

Khatami said various countries that had sought to normalise relations with Israel condemned the crime.

He warned governments of Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that "if this savage criminal gains power, it will attack you too", claiming Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's slogan of "Greater Israel" means territory from the Nile to the Euphrates rivers.

The cleric dismissed appeals to the United Nations and international bodies as solutions to confront Israel, saying "the answer to a stone-thrower is with stones".

He called for Muslim countries to at least cut political and economic relations with what he termed the "executioner regime".

Regarding Hezbollah's potential disarmament, the cleric warned it would be "very dangerous" not just for Lebanon but for the Islamic world.

"Hezbollah of Lebanon must break the teeth of this madman of the Zionist regime who has sharpened his teeth," he said. He told the Lebanese government it was "seriously mistaken" and should use Hezbollah as Lebanon's "powerful arm".
