The United States is preparing to propose granting Russia access to rare earth minerals in Alaska during the forthcoming summit between President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin, The Daily Telegraph reported on August 13.
According to the newspaper’s sources, another proposal from the US president would involve lifting the ban on spare parts and equipment for civil aviation — a move that The Daily Telegraph said could be “very profitable for US company Boeing.”
It cited an unnamed UK government official as saying that “Europe may find such proposals acceptable.”
On August 7, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov announced that Russia and the US had agreed to hold a summit between the two leaders. Putin confirmed that preparations were under way, citing “mutual interest.”
The following day, Trump said he hoped to meet Putin in Alaska on August 15. Ushakov later confirmed both the date and location, saying that the talks were expected to focus on “exploring options for a long-term peace settlement in Ukraine.”
