Consumer price growth (inflation) in Slovakia came in at 3.5% year-on-year (y/y) and 0.1% month-on-month (m/m) in June, the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic said.

This is down compared with 3.8% y/y registered in May and marks a second month of easing in a row after the inflation accelerated to 3.9% in April amid the rising prices of fuel in connection with the war in the Middle East.

“Consumer prices dropped m/m for the first time in 2026, mainly due to lower fuel and food prices,” the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic highlighted in its report on the June figures.

“Y/y inflation was positively affected by the first decline in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices in five years,” statisticians also wrote, adding that “in June, total inflation continued to reflect the January regulatory measures on housing and energy prices, although June recorded the lowest inflation rate so far this year,” matching the March level.

Prices in the food and non-alcoholic beverages basket fell by 0.5% y/y in the first drop since June 2021. Food prices alone were down by 1.1%, as were prices of cheese and eggs (-3.6%), meat (-3.2%) and oils and fats (-12.9%).

Prices in other monitored baskets grew, ranging from the 7.3% growth in the impactful housing and energy basket to 0.6% rise in clothing and footwear. Prices in transportation moderated their growth to 5.3%, while growth in prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport equipment remained in double digits (+11%).

In total for the first half of the year inflation was 3.7% y/y.
