Oman has confirmed it will host the sixth round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States on June 15 in Muscat, the sultanate's foreign minister announced.

Badr al-Busaidi wrote on social media on June 12: "I am pleased to confirm that the sixth round of Iran-US talks will be held on June 15 in Muscat."

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on June 10 that the next round of indirect Iran-US dialogue was being planned for June 15 in Muscat following consultations.

Five rounds of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States have taken place since Donald Trump's second administration began on January 20, 2025. The fifth round was held in Rome on June 2.

The first round of indirect Iran-US talks hosted by Oman took place in Muscat on April 12, with both sides describing the discussions as constructive and forward-looking. The second round was held in Rome on April 19, also hosted by Oman, whilst the third round took place in Muscat on April 26 and the fourth round on May 11.

Iran insists on its inalienable right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes, whilst Washington seeks complete dismantlement of the nuclear programme.

An Iranian official has denied military tensions between Iran and the United States, telling Al-Jazeera there is "no indication of military tension between Iran and the United States."

The comments come as the US diplomatic mission in Iraq has begun emergency evacuation of diplomats, whilst the United States government is preparing to evacuate military personnel from Kuwait and Bahrain.

Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth has authorised voluntary departure of US military family members from facilities in the Central Command area, with US Central Command stating that it "is monitoring the developing tension in the Middle East."

Western intelligence sources believe Iran is deliberately prolonging negotiations with the United States to buy time and prepare for possible strikes on its nuclear facilities, The Jerusalem Post reported.
