Israeli diplomatic missions globally have suspended operations amid the ongoing Israeli military operation against Iran, according to a statement on the Israeli Embassy website in Paris on June 13.

The announcement of the suspension of operations comes as more than 78 people are believed to have been killed in early morning airstrikes on apartment buildings across Tehran and Iran, with several women and children in neighbouring apartments recorded as killed in what Israel claimed was a precision strike on military commanders. Iran has vowed to respond, with President Masoud Pezeshkian threatening an immediate response the unprecedented direct strikes on residential areas.

"Due to recent events, Israeli missions worldwide will be closed and consular services will not be provided," the embassy statement read.

Israelis abroad have been advised to avoid posting their whereabouts on social media and publicly displaying Israeli symbols, whilst avoiding mass events related to Israel and Jewish communities.

The unprecedented closure of Israeli diplomatic facilities worldwide reflects the gravity of security concerns following Israel's "Operation Rising Lion" against Iranian nuclear and military targets.

The measure indicates Israeli intelligence assessments of heightened global threats against diplomatic personnel and Jewish communities.

Israeli citizens travelling or residing abroad face potential retaliation from Iranian proxies and sympathisers in multiple countries.

Previous Israeli operations have triggered attacks on Jewish targets globally, including the 1994 AMIA bombing in Buenos Aires and 2012 attacks on Israeli diplomats in India and Georgia.

The diplomatic shutdown affects consular services for thousands of Israeli citizens worldwide, including passport renewals, visa services, and emergency assistance. The closure duration remains unspecified, suggesting Israeli authorities anticipate extended security risks.

Security measures extend beyond diplomatic facilities to Jewish community centres, synagogues, and Israeli-affiliated institutions in major cities.

European capitals have increased police presence around Jewish areas following similar patterns during previous Middle East escalations.
