Israeli forces struck multiple Iranian targets on June 21, including military infrastructure in the southwestern cities of Ahvaz and Mahshahr, whilst also attacking a nuclear research facility in Isfahan province, reports from state media indicate.

The area is home to multiple energy infrastructure, including gas distribution systems for both internal consumption and exports to the Persian Gulf. The Israeli strikes so far south will likely further their unannounced campaign of taking Iran's energy infrastructure offline permanently

Residents in Ahvaz reported multiple explosions shaking buildings, with unconfirmed reports indicating strikes on Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) bases, including the Gulf base and Karbala base, bringing reciprocal strikes on both countries into a second week.

"The house shook after hearing several explosions," one Ahvaz resident reported, whilst another described the "24-metre side of the glass shook several times from the waves."

In Mahshahr, locals reported strikes on IRGC barracks with smoke visible across the city.

"They hit the Mahshahr IRGC barracks, its smoke can be seen from all over the city, it was a warplane because we heard the sound of the plane, I heard three explosions personally," according to eyewitness accounts on social media.

The Israeli military confirmed it was "currently attacking military infrastructure in southwestern Iran" whilst emphasising preparations for a potentially lengthy campaign.

Earlier strikes targeted an Iranian nuclear research facility in Isfahan province, with Israel's military stating it had attacked two centrifuge production sites. Akbar Salehi, Isfahan province's deputy governor for security affairs, confirmed the strikes caused damage but reported no human casualties.

The attacks represent the second strike on Isfahan since the conflict began, forming part of Israel's stated goal to destroy Iran's nuclear programme.

Israel's military reported killing three senior Iranian commanders in targeted attacks whilst estimating it had destroyed more than 50% of Iran's missile launchers.

Iran launched a new wave of drones and missiles at Israel, though Israeli officials described it as a "small barrage" largely intercepted by defence systems targeting key infrastructure.

Iranian judiciary authorities have also begun high-profile media campaigns inviting foreign media, including American television channel CNN, into the country to highlight the ongoing Israeli military campaign across the country.
