Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of Iran's Parliament, has vowed revenge against Israel following strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, stating "the time for revenge has come and this revenge will be taken in any form and with any possible means," local media reported on June 13. 

Israel launched an extensive aerial attack on Iran in the early hours of June 13, striking multiple locations across Tehran and other key cities, in what it described as a pre-emptive operation against military and nuclear infrastructure.

Dozens of military and civilians have been reportedly killed, including the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) as well as the armed services. 

The latest information available from state media organisations reported that Ali Shamkhani, a senior advisor to the country's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, was also killed after dying in hospital. He remained a member of the Expediency Discernment Council and a political advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran until his death, beginning in May 2023.

Ghalibaf described attacks on residential centres as "a sign of Israel's malice and intense hostility against the Iranian people" and claimed that "painful response and severe, regrettable punishment awaits Israel and its supporters."

The Speaker's comments represent the most senior Iranian legislative response to Israeli military action targeting Iranian nuclear installations and ballistic missile production facilities.

Israel launched what it described as a prolonged operation aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons, striking multiple Iranian houses and nuclear sites across the country.

Iranian media reported Israeli strikes damaged some of Iran's nuclear capabilities, but "failed to damage the Fordow nuclear enrichment facility near Isfahan, located 90 meters underground," MES reported on June 

Ghalibaf's remarks follow the closure of Iranian airspace and suspension of commercial aviation across multiple Middle Eastern countries as the conflict expands beyond previous boundaries.
