US artificial intelligence company Cognition is expanding into Brazil with Itaú and Nubank among its first customers, seeking to grow its presence in the country after raising $2bn, according to Pipeline Valor.
The company, which develops AI agents for software engineering and other business tasks, has begun working with Brazilian financial institutions as demand for enterprise AI grows.
Cognition is best known for Devin, an AI agent designed to perform software development tasks with limited human intervention.
Its expansion comes after a new funding round that has given Cognition greater financial capacity to enter new markets and develop its products. The company has also expanded its portfolio through the acquisition of Windsurf, an AI-powered coding platform.
Brazil has become an important market for global AI companies as banks and other large businesses increase spending on automation and software.
Itaú and Nubank are among the country’s largest financial technology users and have expanded their use of artificial intelligence across customer services, credit and internal operations.
Cognition’s move adds another US AI company to a Brazilian market where local banks are increasingly testing AI agents for specialised tasks.
