Slovakia rose six places to 59th place in the World Economic Forum’s 2017-18 Global Competitiveness Report, the fourth year it has climbed the country ranking.
However, the country’s overall score of 4.33, up from 4.28 in 2016-17, still put it only just above Hungary, and left it lagging its neighbours the Czech Republic and Poland, and well below the CEE leader, Estonia, which is in 29th place in the world.
The WEF ranked Slovakia well on macro-economic environment (35th place), financial market development (32nd), and technological readiness (42nd). However, it performed especially poorly on institutions (93), labour market efficiency (87), and innovation (67)
The report said the most problematic factors for doing business were corruption, inefficient bureaucracy, and tax rates.
