Latvia's budget deficit of 3.5% of GDP was the 12th lowest among EU member states, according to the European Statistical Agency Eurostat. Latvia's budget deficit in 2011 amounted to LVL 494mn (EUR 703mn) vs. LVL 1.04bn or 8.2% of GDP in 2010. Notably, Latvia's y/y decrease of the deficit was the 4th fastest in EU. Estonia posted budget surplus of 1% of GDP, second largest surplus in EU in 2011. Lithuania's budget deficit in 2011 amounted to 5.5% of GDP vs. 7.2% in 2010. |
