The Kremlin has not ruled out the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump's special envoy Stephen Witkoff this week, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on August 4, Izvestia reported.

"We do not rule out the possibility of holding such a meeting," Peskov said at a briefing, according to the Russian news agency.

The presidential press secretary stressed that bilateral dialogue continues and noted that the United States is also continuing efforts to mediate in finding ways to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Peskov described these efforts as very important, including in Russian-Ukrainian negotiations. He also noted Russia's commitment to political and diplomatic means of resolving the conflict.

"We are always glad to see Mr Witkoff in Moscow, and we are always glad to have contacts with Mr Witkoff. And we consider them important, substantive and very useful," the Kremlin spokesman concluded.

On August 3, the US president announced Witkoff's visit to Moscow on August 6 or 7. Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs Grigory Karasin told Izvestia that the meeting with Witkoff will show the real US position on the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.

The potential meeting comes as both sides continue diplomatic efforts to find resolution pathways, with Trump's administration maintaining engagement through special envoys whilst pursuing mediation efforts in the ongoing conflict.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump said Witkoff will visit Russia ahead of the expiration of the 10-day deadline he gave Moscow to implement a ceasefire in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters on August 3, Trump said Witkoff would arrive in Russia on August 6 or 7, French news agency AFP reported.
