India’s weather agency has predicted persistent heavy rains across multiple regions during the opening week of September, cautioning that north-western states will be particularly affected in the next three days. According to a report by state broadcaster DD News, the advisory noted that Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh could see isolated cloudbursts exceeding 21cm on September 2, while Gujarat may encounter extremely intense rainfall on September 4 and 5.

The bulletin indicated that between September 3 and 6, areas along the Konkan coast, Goa, central Maharashtra, the Gujarat region and coastal Karnataka are expected to face widespread heavy showers, with some parts of Gujarat vulnerable to severe flooding.

Strong rainfall activity has also been projected this week for Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Odisha, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and several districts of Madhya Pradesh. In the 24 hours ending September 1, the department observed exceptionally heavy precipitation at select locations in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, western Rajasthan and Telangana.

Very heavy rains were recorded in parts of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and eastern Rajasthan, while steady downpours extended into Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, the Gujarat region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

For the capital region, the India Meteorological Department projected generally overcast skies with intermittent light to moderate rain or thunderstorms continuing until September 4. Temperatures in Delhi are expected to remain relatively cool at 28°C to 30°C on September 2, several degrees below average, before gradually climbing to 30-34°C later in the week. Minimum temperatures are forecast between 21°C and 25°C, accompanied by winds shifting from southeast to northeast at 10-25 kmph.
