The Yemeni Houthi armed forces targeted Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv with a hypersonic "Palestine-2" missile, spokesman Yahya Saree announced on August 1.

Saree said the missile unit of the Yemeni Armed Forces successfully conducted a unique military operation targeting Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv with the supersonic "Palestine-2" missile, Houthi-aligned Iranian news agency Tasnim reported on August 1.

The Yemeni military spokesman stated the operation successfully achieved its objective with divine assistance, causing more than 4mn Israelis to flee to shelters and resulting in flight suspensions at the airport.

Saree said Yemen monitors enemy movements and plans aimed at stopping the Yemeni support front, adding that "we and all the free people of our steadfast and mujahid nation, with God's help, remain in complete vigilance and readiness to confront any enemy movements to defeat them."

Israeli military officials said air defence systems successfully intercepted the Yemeni missile threat.

Sirens sounded across central Israel, including the Tel Aviv area, the Shfela region, Jerusalem and parts of the West Bank, Israeli reports said.

Yemen has regularly launched missiles and drones at Israeli targets since the start of the Gaza war, with the Houthis declaring their operations part of solidarity with Palestinians under Israeli bombardment.

Despite the latest Yemeni attempted strike, regional airlines have continued regular services across the region, despite the ongoing threats to commercial airliners, according to airline tracking service Flight Radar 24 late on August 1.
