Part of a power plant on Iran's Kish Island was damaged in an attack attributed to the United States early on July 14, the Kish Water and Power Engineering Company said, according to state media.

A projectile exploded near the island's water and power production site, and technical parameters at some of its generating units were altered as a result of the blast's proximity, the company said, adding that the extent of the damage was still being assessed by its engineers, with findings expected in the coming days.

The company said it may need to take some generating units offline for repairs if necessary, which would make temporary scheduled power cuts unavoidable, with any such schedule to be announced to residents in advance.

Despite the strike, Kish Island's water and electricity supply had achieved a full resolution of its previous supply imbalance and was not interrupted, the company said, and it asked residents to cooperate in using energy efficiently.

The island came under attack from seven projectiles between the early hours of July 14 and roughly an hour later, according to the report. Several vessels in the island's harbour area also sustained damage from the explosions.

The company said its staff had worked throughout two rounds of conflict over the past year to maintain uninterrupted services to Kish residents despite high risk, and were now focused on sustaining continuity of supply.
