The signing ceremony for the second executive agreement on delivering 180 K2 tanks for the Polish army is expected to take place at the end of June, South Korean news agency Yonhap said on June 10.
The deal, valued at KRW9 trillion (€5.8), forms the next phase of a framework agreement signed in 2022 to purchase a total of 1,000 units.
The latest supply batch will be 117 tanks, built by South Korean firm Hyundai Rotem, while the remaining 63 will be produced in Poland following a transfer of technology to the PGZ, Poland's state-owned arms manufacturing conglomerate.
The plan expands on the earlier contract by including enhanced production and service terms, as well as the assembly of an improved version, the K2PL, according to Korean media.
The signing was initially scheduled for late 2023 but was postponed due to administrative complications in both countries.
Yonhap also noted that South Korea entered political turmoil after former president Jun Suk Yeol declared a short-term state of martial law on December 3, 2024.
Poland, seeking to bolster its defence capabilities, unveiled a strategic partnership with South Korea in July 2022. Alongside the K2 tanks, previous acquisitions include K9 self-propelled howitzers and FA‑50 light combat aircraft from South Korea.
