Greece’s Piraeus Bank and Ukrainian fintech firm Activitis have launched WEAGROBANK, a fully digital banking platform aimed at providing farmers and agricultural businesses with easier access to financial services amid wartime disruption, reported Ukraine Business News.

Billed as Ukraine’s first digital bank for farmers, WEAGROBANK will offer micro, small and medium-sized agricultural enterprises a range of services through a single online platform. The partners say the project is designed to simplify financial management, reduce paperwork and make banking accessible even in remote rural areas.

“This is a great moment for Piraeus Bank in Ukraine,” said John (Yannis) Kyriakopoulos, Chairman of the Management Board of Piraeus Bank Ukraine. He added that the partnership with Activitis comes “in the middle of the war” and demonstrates the resilience of the country. “We will contribute our banking expertise and ESG excellence to make this joint effort as impactful as possible,” he said.

Activitis, which finances small and medium enterprises mainly in the agribusiness sector, said the partnership will help build a broader WEAGRO ecosystem to support Ukrainian farmers.

“Together, our next steps, new products and integrated solutions will actively support Ukraine’s agricultural sector, benefiting micro, small and medium-sized businesses by providing a full range of financial services within the WEAGRO ecosystem – WEAGROBANK,” said Activitis CEO Pavlo Matiiash.

Ukraine is one of the world’s leading exporters of grains and oilseeds, and farming remains a key contributor to its wartime economy. Digital banking has grown rapidly in the country, accelerated by the conflict and the need for remote financial services.

The new platform aims to bridge gaps in financing in rural areas, where access to traditional bank branches has been hampered by insecurity, damage to infrastructure and population displacement.
