Oman cancels Iran-US talks following Israeli strikes as diplomacy collapses

By bnm Tehran bureau June 14, 2025

Scheduled Iran-US negotiations set for June 15 in Muscat have been cancelled following Israeli attacks on Iranian territory, Oman's Foreign Minister announced.

Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi confirmed the cancellation in an X post on June 14, while noting that "diplomacy and dialogue remain the only pathway to lasting peace."

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had earlier declared that continuing talks with Washington was "unjustifiable" whilst Israeli "savagery" persisted.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran's participation in future negotiations remained uncertain after the overnight Israeli strikes and Iran's subsequent response.

Iranian intelligence reports suggest that Israel and the United States attempted to reach out to Tehran throughout the day via intermediaries on June 14, but faced a muted response from the foreign ministry, according to IRGC-linked media accounts.

"The other side has acted in a way that essentially makes negotiation and dialogue meaningless," Baghaei stated, criticising simultaneous diplomatic overtures whilst permitting what he termed a "racist regime" to violate Iranian sovereignty.

Iranian officials argued that Israel could not have conducted such operations without American cooperation, coordination, or at minimum Washington's tacit approval.
