Iran has escalated its rhetoric against Israel and European counterparts, claiming that recently obtained "strategic intelligence documents" demonstrate active Israeli participation in shaping the views of parties negotiating with Iran, as well as European involvement in Israel’s military nuclear programme, ISNA reported.
The assertion by Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei on June 9 comes amidst heightened tensions surrounding Iran's nuclear programme, with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors currently deliberating a draft resolution against Tehran.
Iran recently announced that its intelligence agencies had acquired a trove of sensitive documents, including some reportedly detailing Israel's nuclear activities Israel later admitted to
This came after the IAEA Director-General's latest report, which has highlighted several instances of what it describes as Iran's lack of cooperation with the international atomic watchdog. Key among these are the persistent questions surrounding unexplained traces of uranium found at several undeclared sites in Iran.
While Tehran asserts these remnants are the result of sabotage and has submitted documents to the IAEA to support its claim, the agency reportedly remains unconvinced.
These unresolved issues, among others, have prompted the UK, France, and Germany (collectively known as the E3), along with the United States, to present a draft resolution to the IAEA Board of Governors.
The resolution, shared with the 35 member states on June 5, ahead of the quarterly meeting that commenced on June 9, reportedly aims to accuse Iran of "non-compliance" with its safeguards obligations, a significant move, marking the first such accusation in nearly two decades.
Iran has warned of retaliatory measures should the resolution be passed. Russia has also cautioned against the resolution, stating it would "not bring positive results."
The foreign ministry spokesperson said at a press conference that the newly obtained documents "make clear the active participation of some European countries in equipping Israel’s military nuclear programme."
He asserted the significance of this revelation, highlighting that "countries that talk about non-proliferation and question Iran's peaceful nuclear programmes are themselves involved in equipping Israel’s military nuclear programme."
The spokesperson also alleged that these documents reveal "Israel’s active participation in imposing its views on the parties to the Iranian negotiations."
He added, "It was clear to us, and we had raised this issue many times, and these documents prove our position."
