Czech unemployment level eased slightly by 0.1 percentage point in comparison to April to 4.2% in May (chart), as employers seek workforce for seasonal jobs in tourism and restaurants.
There were 316,060 job applicants registered with the country’s Labour Office, which is 41,738 job applicants more than last May, or an increase of 0.6 pp.
“The labour market continues to be in a very good condition,” commented Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Marián Jurečka, adding that “it is evident that in restaurants and tourism in particular, there are preparations for the main season.”
There are 4,300 new job openings in these sectors, while the overall figure of available openings is over 9,000, accounting for an 11.2% share of the overall job postings, the Labour Office noted in a press release.
The highest unemployment level remained in the district of Most (9.4%) in the northwest of the country, and Karviná (9%) in the northeast, while several districts registered unemployment below 3%, including Prague East, Prague West, as well as Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Pelhřimov, Benešov, Zlín and Jičín.
