Iran's Shahid Madani International Airport in Tabriz (IATA: TBZ) has received approval to resume commercial aviation services following extensive damage sustained from Israeli airstrikes, Eqtesad Online reported on July 6.

The airport, which serves as a key aviation hub in northwestern Iran, sustained significant damage to infrastructure and navigation equipment, particularly to flight surfaces, during what Iranian media described as attacks by Israeli forces in recent regional hostilities.

The Civil Aviation Organisation of Iran issued clearance for the northwestern airport to return to service after comprehensive field inspections conducted on July 3 and 4. Technical teams assessed the damaged runways and evaluated operational and security conditions before approving the facility's return to Iran's aviation network.

Aviation authorities confirmed that flight restrictions have been lifted and critical infrastructure has been prepared for resumed operations. The facility had been closed for 23 days whilst repair work was completed on damaged sections.

Tabriz airport represents one of Iran's primary aviation arteries in the northwest region, handling domestic and international flights. The facility's closure had disrupted air travel connections to the region during the extended repair period.

The Civil Aviation Organisation conducted detailed technical assessments before granting operational approval, ensuring all safety and security standards were met. Ground support equipment and runway systems underwent thorough inspection before the resumption clearance was issued.

Iranian aviation officials have not disclosed the full extent of repair costs or detailed damage assessments. The facility's reopening restores a crucial transportation link for the northwestern province of East Azerbaijan.
