Telefonica Slovakia to launch 3G network in mid-July 2011.

Mobile phone operator Telefonica Slovakia said it will launch its 3G network in mid-July 2011. The network will cover 33% of the countrys population and will be available in 24 cities by August 2011, the company said in a statement on its website. Some 90% of the planned coverage might re reached already in mid-July, communication department director Rene Parak said. The 3G network is expected to be used mainly for mobile connection through notebooks and mobile phones and not as an alternative for fixed-line internet. Telefonica Slovakia, which has recently changed its name from Telefonica 02 Slovakia, is the smallest of the three mobile phone operators in Slovakia. The company is owned by Spanish Telefonica via its Czech unit Telefonica 02 CR.
