Romanian opposition PNL party presses for early elections.

By bne IntelliNews January 24, 2012
Several parliament members of Romanian opposition PNL party have submitted their resignations from the legislative body to the party president, Crin Antonescu, in a bid to prompt early elections, daily Adevarul reported. They invited the MPs from the other major opposition party, PSD, to follow their decision and resign at the same time. The strategy was approved by PNL president Antonescu, who urged MPs from all opposition parties to resign in case the ruling coalition refuses to quickly organise early elections. Nonetheless, the other major opposition party, PSD (which forms a coalition with PNL) has a more moderate position. Adrian Nastase, former PM and currently leading a regional representative in PSD, said that the resignation would lead to partial elections aimed at replacing the resigned PMs until the regular elections are held this autumn.
