Iran executed two men on August 6, following convictions in separate cases involving espionage and terrorism, Mizan reported.
Roozbeh Vadi was hanged after being found guilty of spying for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency and leaking classified information, including details about an Iranian nuclear scientist killed during the recent 12-day war with Israel.
Iranian judicial authorities stated that Vadi had worked within one of the country’s most sensitive institutions, though the organisation was not named.
He reportedly had high-level access to classified data and used encrypted devices and cryptocurrency wallets to communicate with Mossad agents and receive monthly payments.
According to the Iranian Judiciary, under Mossad’s guidance, Vadi purchased a phone, a laptop, and flash drives to establish a secure channel for transferring confidential data.
He travelled to Vienna on five occasions to meet Israeli operatives. His activities were eventually detected by Iranian security agencies, who monitored his movements and uncovered his foreign connections. After his arrest, he was tried and convicted of espionage and intelligence cooperation with Israel. The Supreme Court upheld the death sentence, which was carried out in Tehran on the morning of August 6.
On the same day, Iran also executed Mehdi Asgharzadeh, on charges of membership in the Takfiri terrorist group ISIS and plotting attacks on Iranian soil.
Authorities said Asgharzadeh had received military and ideological training in Syria and Iraq under the aliases “Abu Khaled” and “Hessam”. He entered Iran with a five-member cell via the western highlands, reportedly intending to carry out suicide bombings and mass shootings at pilgrimage sites.
Before any attacks could be executed, Iranian security forces raided the group’s safe house, killing four members. Asgharzadeh escaped but was later apprehended. A large cache of weapons and explosives was recovered, including Kalashnikov rifles, suicide belts, magnetic bombs, remote detonators, and bomb timers.
He was sentenced to death for “corruption on earth” and endangering public security. The Supreme Court confirmed the verdict, and the sentence was carried out on August 6.
