Iran's Judiciary announced on June 23 the execution of Mohammad Amin Mahdavi Shayesteh on charges of "collaborating with Israel," making him the third individual to be executed for alleged espionage since the recent escalation of conflict between Iran and Israel began on June 13.

Mahdavi Shayesteh was hanged in the morning after his conviction for "intelligence cooperation in favour of Israel" was upheld by the Supreme Court, Mizan reported.

According to documents in the case, Mahdavi Shayesteh was identified as the head of a sophisticated cyber team allegedly affiliated with Mossad, Israel's intelligence service.

This network reportedly conducted its activities across cyberspace, social networks, and foreign messaging platforms, all under the direct supervision of Israeli intelligence officers. Mahdavi Shayesteh's role was described as pivotal, managing the network, conveying orders from Mossad, and directing both virtual and field operations.

His alleged responsibilities included leading a cyber network whose primary task was "branding and producing content" on social media and messaging apps, specifically targeting employees of Iran's armed forces, and setting up a website based on orders from the Israeli service.

The Judiciary claimed that Mahdavi Shayesteh also provided training he had received from his handlers to other members of the network.

Furthermore, the Judiciary asserted that this alleged cyber network maintained a close relationship with the London-based Persian-language news channel Iran International. It claimed that "fake content produced by this network became the reference for the reports of the channel," suggesting the channel played a "special supporting role in attracting audiences" for the network's affiliated channels.

Beyond the digital, Mahdavi Shayesteh was accused of carrying out "important field missions." These reportedly included photographing specific locations, sending threatening Mossad packages to targets, harassing individuals, and transmitting videos and images to his Israeli officer via a secure communication platform.

Mahdavi Shayesteh’s execution follows that of Majid Mosayebi on June 21, also on charges of spying for Israel, and Esmail Fekri, who was executed on June 16 for allegedly working for Mossad since 2023.
