Russian oligarch Vladimir Potanin wants to buy the 6.3% stake in metal giant Norilsk Nickel held by fellow oligarchs Roman Abramovich and Alexander Abramov, Vedomosti reported on February 16.
Potanin’s Interros, which owns 30.41% of Norilsk, made the offer to Crispian Investments Ltd, one of the companies through which Abramovich and Abramov own a their stake in Norilsk Nickel, which is worth an estimated $2bn.
Potanin did not disclose the reasons for making the offer. But a subsidiary of aluminium giant UC Rusal controlled by Oleg Deripaska and the owner of 27.8% in Norilsk Nickel, filed a suit to a London court demanding suspension of the deal. Deripaska is Abramovich's protégé.
