Slovakias July new car sales rise 12% y/y.

New car sales in Slovakia increased by 12% y/y in July 2012 to 6,252, following a 5.1% annual decline in the previous month, data from the Slovak Automotive Industry Association (ZAP) showed. For the first seven months of the year, sales of new cars were 2% higher y/y to 40,568 units. Skoda kept its leading position in the passenger car segment with a market share of 24% in Jan-July, followed by Germanys Volkswagen with a share of 9.35% and South Koreas Kia with a share of 7.54%. Sales of new light commercial vehicles dropped 12.1% on the year to 2,841 units in Jan-July 2012. Sales of trucks weighing 3.5 tonnes to 12 tonnes were flat on the year at 300 units, while sales of heavy trucks above 12 tonnes dropped 6.2% to 1,819 units. Fiat topped the light commercial vehicles segment with a 23.8% market share, Iveco dominated the light trucks segment with a 48% market share and Volvo led with a 29.7% market share in the heavy trucks segment. A total of 155 new buses were sold in the country in the first seven months of 2012, up 24% from a year earlier.
