Romanias wheat crop up by over 25% y/y in 2011.

By bne IntelliNews August 8, 2011
Romanias wheat crop exceeded 7mn tonnes this year, agriculture minister Valeriu Tabara announced several days before the end of the harvesting season, implying an expansion of at least 25% y/y, according to Agerpres. The full wheat crop must have exceeded last years level by some 1.5mn tonnes, even if the farmers reporting add up to 6.8mn tonnes so far, Tabara said. Incomplete reporting or deliveries on the black market explain the discrepancies, the minister added. Earlier this month, Tabara estimated that 80% of the wheat crop is milling grade. Agerpres also quoted official data, released by the ministry on August 3, that 96% of the 1.957mn ha, sown with wheat this year, had already been harvested. The quantities, reported by the farmers, summed up to 6.778mn tonnes.
