Norway's Scatec Solar to construct €85mn solar plant in Ukraine

By bne IntelliNews June 13, 2018

Norway's Scatec Solar is going to begin the construction of a €85mn solar power with a total capacity of 83 MW in Ukraine's Cherkasy region this year, according to the company's June 12 statement

The company is going to construct two stations with a capacity of 33 MW and 50 MW respectively. Land plots will be rented from municipalities.

Scatec Solar expects the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to provide financial assistance to the project. The multinational lender has not commented on the issue so far.

"We are very enthusiastic about securing our first two projects in Ukraine to our backlog, and we see it as a first step to develop a larger portfolio of solar power plants in the country. Ukraine is actively working to change their energy mix and increase the share of power supplied from renewables," commented the company's CEO Raymond Carlsen.

Scatec Solar is an integrated independent solar power producer, delivering affordable, rapidly deployable and sustainable sources of clean energy worldwide. The company develops, builds, owns, operates and maintains solar power plants, and already has an installation track record of close to 1,000 MW.

Currently, the Oslo-headquartered company is producing electricity from 322 MW of solar power plants in the Czech Republic, South Africa, Rwanda, Honduras and Jordan, and has another 1,092 MW under construction. With an established global presence, the company is growing briskly with a project backlog and pipeline of about 4 GW under development in the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.
