In a press briefing on May 12 2025, officials from the Indian Ministry of Defence including commanders of India’s military confirmed that New Delhi hadn’t struck any Pakistani nuclear storage sites during Operation Sindoor. Replying to a question during the briefing Air Marshal A K Bharti of the Indian Air Force said that they were not aware that the alleged site at Kirana Hills in Pakistan was home to a nuclear storage facility.

Bharti also clarified that regardless of its nature the site was not one of the targets the Indian Armed Forces had claimed to strike in operations between May 7 and May 12.

Furthermore, Bharti lauded the performance of not only the cutting edge air defence systems and their operator units in India’s arsenal but also legacy systems he characterised as “battle tested” in countering the heavy air assaults by Pakistani loitering munitions and other drones and missiles of Chinese and Turkish origin.

Sharing the dias with Bharti was Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod of the Indian Navy who confirmed that the Indian Navy had deployed in force during Operation Sindoor including mobilising one of its two Carrier Battle Group(CBG). Pramod asserted that the Indian Navy’s CBG was unchallenged and no hostile aircraft approached or was present for hundreds of kilometers around it - giving India the ability to strike at Pakistani targets if the need arose at any point.

The Russian origin MiG 29Ks operating from onboard an Indian Navy aircraft carrier ship were constantly airborne and providing point defence to the fleet at all times during operations.

India launched the ongoing Operation Sindoor on May 7 as a retaliatory action after a deadly terrorist attack in India’s Pahalgam on April 22 claimed 26 lives and was perpetrated by a proxy terrorist group backed by the Pakistani military. After several days of hostilities India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on May 10 with discussions between the Director Generals of Military Operations(DGMO)s of both countries deescalating the crisis bilaterally.

In an 8pm adress to the nation on May 12, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also echoed that India's Armed Forces especially its air defence equipment and units had performed exceptionally well and had made the country proud. Modi said that India's strikes during Operation Sindoor were a message to all terrorists that their actions against India will be punished no matter where they hide.
