Hungary's digital TV subscriptions up 1.9%m/m to 1.66mn in Dec 2011.

The positive trend on Hungarys digital TV market continued in December 2011 with the number of subscription rising by 1.9% m/m to 1.66mn, the communications watchdog informed. The statistics include data from the country's 12 biggest digital TV providers that account for around 88% of the market. Digital TV users accounted for more than half of the overall domestic TV market, as their share is estimated at 51.6% at the end of the month, climbing by 0.5pps from November. The improvement in the month was due to a rise in the number of digital subscribers with cable or IPTV connections - up by 12,987 to 689,597, coupled with an increase of 7,988 subscribers in the wireless connections category to 916,613. Both subscriptions are on the rise since the beginning of the year. Regarding the market share distribution, UPC remained the market leader, its share reaching 25.9%, followed by DIGI with 23% and T-Home with a share of 22.4%.
