Average net wage in Montenegro drops 2.2% y/y in February 2012.

The average net wage in Montenegro amounted to EUR 495 in Feb, down by 2.2% compared to the year-ago period, statistics office data showed. The annual drop decelerated slightly from 2.5%, registered in the previous month. Gross earnings declined to EUR 739 from EUR 754 in Jan. On an annual basis the drop in gross earnings stood at 2% in Feb. According to our calculations, the average net wage fell by 6.1% y/y in real terms, and the drop accelerated from January's 5.1% y/y. In the period Jan-Dec 2011, the average net wage in the country increased at a slower rate than inflation - by 1% y/y, compared to consumer prices for the period rising by 3.1% y/y.
