Telenor Serbia, a unit of Norwegian cell phone operator Telenor, has renovated its network in Belgrade and increased its speed by up to five times, according to a note posted on the website of the company. The network infrastructure in Vojvodina and Belgrade has been renovated within the Smart Network project. Actual download speeds there range from 3 Mbps to 6 Mbps and more, the statement reads. Moreover, the company plans the Telenor Smart Network to cover entire Serbia by by February 2012. Marek Slacik, Chief Marketing Officer, expects that the use of smartphones will be doubled in the next five years, which is why Telenor intends to continue investing in the construction of its smart network. The project for the renovation of the network was initiated in 2010 and is also one of Telenor's biggest capital investments since the company's arrival in Serbia. Telenor Serbia is the country's second largest mobile operator with 3.06mn subscribers. In the second quarter of 2011 the company posted revenues of NOK 738mn and operating profit of NOK 181mn. |
