Poland Consumer Electronics Report - 2014

December 5, 2014

This report covers the market developments in FY 2013, January-October 2014 and the data available as of November 2014.

The Polish consumer electronics market remained in the positive area in 2013, though the growth pace of exports, production and domestic sales diminished significantly compared to 2012 and 2011, market data show. The situation however showed signs of improvement in January-October 2014 and the full-year performance is expected to remain higher y/y.

The production of domestic appliances increased by 6% y/y in volume terms in 2013, maintaining the same growth pace as in 2012. The output of large domestic appliances further rose by 8% y/y in January-August 2014, backed by the growing demand from the main export destinations. All categories except cookers recorded positive y/y performance this year. Prospects for the future are linked to the evolution of external demand, as roughly 80% of the production is exported.

Exports of household appliances slowed down abruptly in 2013, when they increased marginally by 1% y/y in EUR terms, compared to 11% y/y rise in 2012, but recovered this year. Official statistics show that in H1/2014 exports of the broader category of machinery and mechanical appliances, electrical and electrotechnical equipment advanced by 10% y/y in local currency and 8.9% y/y in EUR terms. The exports’ future outlook remains linked to the economic environment on the major destination markets and to the global developments on the financial markets. Projections are, accordingly, cautious, but remain on the optimistic side.
