Retail food sales in Hungary witnessed a 4% inflation in the period December 2010 - May 2011, Hungary Around the Clock reported, quoting an analysis of market research company Nielsen conducted over ninety food groups. Due to the price hike, the total value of sold food reached HUF 640bn (EUR 2.42bn), although their volume remained unchanged. The sales of cheese, fruit yoghurt, cream, cooking oil and butter rose above average. Two-thirds of the sales were generated in bigger shops (over 400 square meters).
