Bosnias Federation industrial production climbed 14.1% y/y in February 2013, supported by higher manufacturing and utilities output, the Federations statistics office said in a statement. February industrial production remained by 1.8% lower as compared to the 2012 monthly average. Increase of industrial output in February partly reflects low base effects from last year (due to extreme cold weather in February 2011). The manufacturing sector (up 16.9% y/y in February) was supported by a rise in production of other non-metallic mineral products (up 115.4% y/y), fabricated metal products (up 39.2%) and basic metals (up 11.5% y/y) - which account for over 20% of total industrial output. The Federations utilities output also increased by 23.6% y/y in February for a second month in a row. The mining and quarrying sector continued declining in February (down 6.6% y/y), mainly due to lower coal and lignite extraction. In 2012, Bosnias Federation industrial output dropped by 4.3% after increasing 2.5% in 2011, as all tree sectors contracted. Industry accounts for around 23% of Bosnias Federation gross value added. The Federation together with the Serb Republic makes up Bosnia and Herzegovina and contributes for 64% of Bosnias GDP. |
