Russia’s largest e-commerce operator Wildberries & Russ (RWB) is reportedly in discussions with Russian Railways and FESCO transportation major on the development of Russia's National Logistics Platform, a digital system coordinating cargo flows across the country, according to RBC business portal citing sources familiar with the negotiations.

As covered by IntelliNews, in 2024, Wildberries was rocked by controversy surrounding a merger deal with Russ Group, an outdoor advertising operator reportedly controlled by billionaire Dagestan senator Suleiman Kerimov that is a tenth of the size of Wildberries.

In 2025, as the case seemed to have settled down, Wildberries started to venture into new verticals and went on a mysterious M&A spree. This year, a deal with major state-controlled VTB Bank signalled that Wildberries could now be integrated into a larger pattern of state takeover of e-commerce and digital assets.

FESCO, in turn, is back in focus as its state-controlled parent nuclear power agency Rosatom prepares a joint venture with the UAE DP World.

According to sources cited by RBC, discussions between Russian Railways, FESCO and Wildberries have been ongoing since 2025.

One source said Wildberries approached Dmitry Yalov, the former deputy governor of the Leningrad region, who is expected to lead the future joint venture between Russian Railways and FESCO, with a proposal to participate in the project.

One option reportedly under consideration would see Wildberries acquire a 25% stake in the future joint venture. Sources also said software developer 1C could join the project as another shareholder, although neither possibility has been formally confirmed.

The logistics platform is expected to function as a marketplace for freight customers. Shippers would enter cargo details, shipment volumes, destinations and delivery dates through a digital interface and receive transport options from logistics providers operating on the selected routes.

The initiative forms part of the National Digital Transport and Logistics Platform, known as GosLog, which was established under a Russian government decree issued in July 2024, and currently operated by the Transportation Ministry.

According to a source familiar with the project, authorities are considering transferring operation of the platform to the future Russian Railways and FESCO joint venture under a concession agreement.

Industry experts surveyed by RBC said Wildberries could play a central technological role in the logistics platform, noting that the e-commerce major already operates one of Russia's most advanced digital logistics and supply chain management systems.
