Hungary's 2011 wheat harvest to fall to 3.5mn tonnes - report.

Hungary's wheat wheat harvest might fall to 3.5mn tones in 2011, MTI news agency reported, quoting the head of the domestic farming association, Istvan Jakab. Jakab pointed out that the area of arable land, used for wheat growing this year, was decreased by 200,000 hectares this year. According to statistics office data, the cereals output declined by 12% y/y to 12.3mn tonnes from 2.6mn hectares of land (down by 11% y/y) in 2010. The production of wheat in particular narrowed by 15% to 3.8mn tonnes, while the land area for wheat production declined by 12% y/ to 1.011mn ha. The average yield was 3,720 kg/ha.
