The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) and Kazakhstan’s Batys Transit have completed joint public-private partnership (PPP) projects on constructing street lighting systems in the Kazakh oil capital Atyrau with KZT8bn ($19mn) of financing provided by the development bank, the EDB said in a statement on April 5.
Under the projects, a total of 242,620 metres of lighting was built on 238 streets of Atyrau and on a highway connecting Atyrau and Aktobe. The project has optimised electricity consumption and network maintenance via an integrated automated outdoor lighting control system for efficient management, control and diagnostics.
“Batys Transit is one of the Bank’s key clients, with whom we have built a long-standing partnership based on the effective cooperation between our teams. This is proven by the successful commissioning of the street lighting projects despite the rather strict lockdowns in many regions since the beginning of 2020. The EDB and the company are currently discussing further cooperation and new projects,” said Amangeldy Issenov, deputy chairman of the EDB management board.
The Almaty-headquartered EDB is an international financial institution promoting integration and development in its member states – Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Russia, and Tajikistan.
