Several Iranian drones and missiles were intercepted and downed over Syria’s southern Daraa province on June 14 amid ongoing hostilities between Israel and Iran, local sources and media reported. The incidents have raised serious safety concerns among civilians, who say they are caught in the crossfire between the two powers.

According to Syria’s state-run Al-Ikhbariyah TV, one Iranian drone was shot down by Israeli air defences and crashed into a residential home in the northern district of Nawa city, causing partial material damage but no casualties.

Local outlet Daraa 24 also reported that another Iranian drone fell near a home in the village of Khirbet Qais, while a missile, intercepted earlier in the day, landed near Jassem city, close to a tent housing a Bedouin family. The missile reportedly caused a minor fire in the tent, but no injuries were reported.

In a separate incident, another Iranian drone was intercepted over the town of Al-Sanamayn. The debris from the interception hit a house near the city’s National Hospital, sparking a fire in the basement and destroying a motorcycle, again with no reported injuries.

Sheikh Ahmad Arab, an imam from Nawa, told Asharq Al-Awsat that Israeli and Iranian aircraft and missiles frequently breach Syrian airspace, turning the skies above the country into a battleground. "Every day, missiles and drones from both sides fall on our towns and villages. It’s terrifying, and while we as civilians are deeply concerned, there’s nothing we can do," he said.

He stressed the need for international protection of Syrian airspace, condemning both Israel and Iran for conducting their conflict over Syrian territory. His call echoed growing frustration among residents, many of whom report receiving warning messages on their phones from Israel.

Local outlet Ahrar Horan Gathering published one such alert titled “Emergency Warning – Maximum Level.” The message read, “In the coming minutes, alerts are expected in your area. Move to the nearest protected space. If an alert is received, remain in shelter until further notice,” and concluded with: “Home Front Command – Instructions Save Lives.”

In addition to these warnings, Israeli aircraft reportedly dropped leaflets over the village of Kouya in the Yarmouk Basin region of western Daraa, urging residents to avoid carrying weapons or approaching agricultural areas.

Mofleh Salim Suleiman, a resident of Kouya, expressed deep concern about the situation, telling Asharq Al-Awsat, “Our skies have become a theatre for Israeli-Iranian confrontations. Their drones and missiles are falling on our homes and terrifying our children, who now spend most of their time indoors or in basements.”

He added, “Israel and Iran are fighting their war over other people's lands and heads. There must be international action to secure and protect Syrian airspace.”

The Syrian government has not issued any official statement regarding the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Iran.

According to sources close to the Damascus government, Syria is unlikely to take sides in the current escalation. “Damascus maintains equal hostility toward both parties,” one source told Asharq Al-Awsat, adding that “Syria’s fragile situation and the priority of rebuilding and restructuring the state leave no room for impulsive or ill-calculated positions in a conflict between two powers that have both contributed to Syria’s destruction.”
