Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on linking their power grids, AsiaPlus has reported, citing Azerbaijani media reports and social media posts by Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov.
The agreement was formalised after a meeting of the three countries' ministers of economy and energy in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, on May 1. By integrating their grids, the three countries hope to more effectively produce and consume renewable energy resources, Jabbarov noted in a post on X.
“During the trilateral meeting of Economy and Energy Ministers from Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan, held as part of our working visit to Uzbekistan, we signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Merging the Energy Systems of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan,” Jabbarov wrote.
“The implementation of this document will catalyse our collective goals, particularly focusing on the production and export of green energy to Europe through Azerbaijan's territory, the integration of energy systems, and the effective utilisation of renewable resources,” the minister said.
