A woman was killed and three others injured in a Russian strike on the Vyshhorod district of Ukraine's Kyiv region, regional military administration head Mykola Kalashnyk reported on December 23.
A private two-storey house caught fire during the attack, killing a 76-year-old woman. Three people suffered shrapnel wounds including a 50-year-old man, a 49-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, who received medical treatment at the scene, Kalashnyk stated on Telegram.
"In the Vyshhorod district, a private two-story house caught fire as a result of an enemy attack. Unfortunately, a woman born in 1949 was killed. We offer our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones.
Russia has launched more than 650 drones and 30 missiles in a large-scale attack targeting Ukraine's energy sector and civilian infrastructure, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on December 23.
The assault, which began overnight, killed at least three people including a four-year-old child in Zhytomyr region when a Russian drone struck a residential building. A woman died in Kyiv region and one person was killed in Khmelnytskyi region, Zelenskyy wrote on social media platform X.
Air raid alerts remained in effect across most of Ukraine as emergency services worked to address strike consequences. At least 13 regions came under attack, with Ukrainian forces shooting down a significant number of drones and missiles. Detailed figures from the Air Force will be provided once all reports are received.
Repair crews and energy workers deployed to restore normal operations in affected cities and communities following successful strikes on infrastructure targets.
"This Russian strike sends an extremely clear signal about Russia's priorities. An attack ahead of Christmas, when people simply want to be with their families, at home, and safe," Zelenskyy stated. "An attack carried out essentially in the midst of negotiations aimed at ending this war. Putin still cannot accept that he must stop killing."
The president stated that insufficient international pressure on Russia continues, calling for responses to push Moscow towards peace and guaranteed security. He requested continued air defence supplies, weapons procurement funding and energy equipment provision, noting these processes cannot pause for weekends or holidays.
"We must remain committed to protecting life in order to finally achieve peace," Zelenskyy wrote, thanking those helping Ukraine and leaders who condemn Russian actions.
