Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine will not consider transferring any of its territories, Ukrainska Pravda reported on December 8.

The Ukrainian president said neither national legislation, international law nor moral principles allow such action to hand over territory to Russia in exchange for peace.

"Are we considering the question of giving up any territories? We have no right under the law - under the law of Ukraine, under our Constitution, international law, to be honest. And we have no moral right either," Zelenskiy said at an online briefing, according to Ukrainska Pravda.

"Russia insists that we give up territories. We definitely do not want to give up anything. That is what we are fighting for, you know that perfectly well," he said.

Zelenskiy said the United States is currently seeking compromise solutions to resolve the situation, he said on the sidelines of meetings with NATO and European officials in Brussels.

The Ukrainian president confirmed on December 8 that participants in negotiations over Donald Trump's "peace plan" still cannot reach an agreement on the territorial question, particularly regarding the fate of Donetsk Oblast.

Earlier, Politico reported, citing European officials, that during discussions of a possible agreement to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, the US continues to push the idea that Ukraine should agree to leave territory in Donetsk Oblast without battle.

US President Trump previously claimed Russia had agreed to a "peace plan" whilst Zelenskiy had not even read it.

Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council, said he received information in the US about their meeting with Russians in Moscow and plans to share all aspects of the dialogue and transfer documents to Zelenskiy.
