Qatar and Bahrain both faced continued Iranian missile attacks during the early hours of March 1, with both countries sustaining direct hits despite interception efforts.
The escalation follows Iran's initial strikes on February 28, when Qatar's Ministry of Defence claimed successful interception of incoming projectiles. That same day, an Iranian missile hit the US Naval Support Activity Bahrain in Juffair, Manama, headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
The Qatari government announced in a public statement that its armed forces repelled a large-scale Iranian assault involving 65 ballistic missiles and 12 drones targeting its territory, intercepting 63 missiles and 11 drones. However, two missiles struck Al-Udeid Air Base whilst a drone hit an early warning radar installation, according to spokespeople at a joint press conference of the Ministries of Defence, Interior, and Foreign Affairs.
The attacks resulted in eight injuries ranging from serious to moderate, alongside material damage to property, with no deaths reported by Qatar News Agency. Footage circulating on social media indicated that some missiles directly impacted Qatari territory, whilst the Ministry of Interior reported firefighters working to extinguish a small blaze caused by fallen missile debris in an industrial area.
In the public address, the Qatari government issued a strong condemnation of what it termed a "dangerous escalation," stressing its right to respond fully and legitimately to the attacks.
A photograph has also been circulating regarding a direct missile hit on Bahrain.
