The US-based company and video games producer Epic Games acquired the Slovak company Capturing Reality, experts in 3D scanning software, to become part of the Unreal Engine Software ecosystem, according to the company's press release.
“RealityCapture is the clear market leader in photogrammetry and has been integral to the creation of Quixel Megascans since its inception. We are beyond excited to welcome Capturing Reality to our team, and to accelerate our shared vision to enable anyone to scan the world,” commented Senior Director, Quixel at Epic Games Teddy Bergsman on the transaction.
"The Capturing Reality team is made up of some of the most impressive experts in the field of photogrammetry,” added General Manager of Unreal Engine Marc Petit.
As reported by daily Sme, the sales of Capturing Reality have been on a continual rise since its inception. In 2019 the company reported gross earnings of €2.3mn.
At the end of last year, another Slovak-based technology company Sli.do was purchased by US-based Silicon Valley tech giant Cisco Systems. Sli.do’s technology became relevant in 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic forced offices to shift to remote working. The company's technology is used by more than 7mn people.
