Turkish state-owned petroleum pipeline corporation Botas has signed a sales and purchase agreement (SPA) with Australia’s Woodside energy, the Perth-headquartered firm announced on December 29.

Under the terms of deal, Woodside will supply Botas with 0.5mn tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG. The contact will begin in 2030 and last for up to nine years.

The deal between Botas and Australia’s largest gas producer began to take shape in September when the two firms inked a non-binding Heads of Agreement (HOA) deal. That deal was signed in accompaniment with a 20-year LNG deal with Swiss trader Mercuria to purchase about 4mn cubic metres annually from the US beginning in 2026 at a cost of $43bn.

The LNG from Woodside will be supplied from its Louisiana LNG project predominantly as well as its wider portfolio. After receiving financial backing from US gas infrastructure company Williams in November, Woodside is targeting the export of the first cargo from Louisiana LNG in 2029.

“This supply agreement with Botas represents a strategic milestone for Woodside given it is our first long-term LNG supply arrangement with the Turkish market. It is yet another demonstration of the strength and flexibility of Woodside’s diversified portfolio and ability to deliver on our global ambitions,” Mark Abbotsford, Woodside Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, said in a statement.

“Woodside also appreciates the support shown by the Turkish and United States governments following the announcement of the HOA earlier this year,” Abbotsford added.

Woodside took a positive final investment decision (FID) in April 2025. It was a bold move at the time with US President Donald Trump’s tariff talks threatening to raise construction costs on half of equipment and materials needed for the facility.

Woodside acquired Louisiana LNG, which at the time was known as Driftwood LNG, when the Australian firm bought US LNG developer Tellurian in August 2024 for $900mn.
