Consumer prices in Slovenia increased 2% y/y in September, the statistics office said on September 28. On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.4%.
Meanwhile, the 12-month average price growth was 1.6% (in September 2017 it was 1.2%), the statistics office said in a statement.
The Slovenian government Institute of Macroeconomic Analysis and Development (IMAD) said on September 27 it sees inflation at 1.8% this year mainly owing to strong oil price rises and a gradual strengthening of growth in prices of services. Prices should increase steadily in the next few years.
The monthly growth in consumer prices was supported by a 10.3% hike in the prices of clothing and footwear. According to the statistics office, with the arrival of autumn-winter collections in stores the prices of garments increased by 11.1% and the prices of footwear by 9.5%.
Prices in the sector of housing, water, electricity gas and other fuels went up 1.5% on a monthly basis. The steepest fall was reported by the recreation and culture sector where prices went down 5.1% m/m.
Compared to September last year, consumer prices rose the most in the housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels sector, by 5.2%. Prices fell only in the clothing and footwear sector, by 1%.
