Regular flights from Moscow's Vnukovo airport to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia commenced on December 23, the airport's press service announced, Interfax reported.
Saudi Arabian carrier flynas began operating the route three times weekly with a flight time of six hours and 40 minutes. The airline's flight XY 0689 from Jeddah landed at Vnukovo at 10.28am, according to the airport's online departure board cited by RIA Novosti.
Flynas launched flights from Vnukovo to Riyadh in August, operating four times weekly with a flight time of five hours and 35 minutes, according to Vnukovo's website.
The airline wrote on its social media: "#flynas celebrated the launch of its direct flights between Jeddah and Moscow, with representatives from the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Moscow, the Russian Tourism Authority, and Vnukovo Airport in attendance."
The new route marks the second Saudi Arabian destination served by Flynas from Moscow's Vnukovo airport, expanding connectivity between Russia and the kingdom.
Flynas currently flies to more than 70 domestic and international destinations in around 30 countries, operating about 1,500–2,000 weekly flights across 139 routes.
The airline also runs nonstop services from Riyadh to Moscow. Flagship airline Saudia operates direct flights between Riyadh and Sheremetyevo in Moscow, currently promoted at around 5 weekly frequencies.
