One of the founders of Russia's leading real estate developer PIK Group Kirill Pisarev co-founded Protelux bioprotein factory for animal feed, Kommersant daily reported. In ten years Protelux plans to open another nine factories, squeeze out foreign bioprotein suppliers and reach a turnover of $1.5bn.
As bne IntelliNews has reported, Russia's agriculture has been the main benefactor of the import substitution drive and the counter-sanctions imposed on Western food products, boosting domestic development across multiple segments.
Reportedly Protelux was set up in the Leningrad region in 2015, and besides Pisarev attracted investment fromm co-owner of Absolut Bank Mikhail Serdtsev, and a group of private investors. Pisarev and Serdstev confirmed that to Kommersant, noting tha the two jointly hold less than 50% in the Protelux.
Also Finish holding uniting Lihatukku Jouni Partanen Oy, Pajuniemi and Maalaistuote Vataja Oy participate in the bioprotein project. Protelux acquired an exclusive licence for processing natural gas with special bio-protein producing bacteria from Danish Unibio.
Industry experts surveyed by Kommersant noted that total cost of poultry and eggs consists of 70% from feed, out of which 25-35% is the cost of protein supplements. The product of Protelux could be in high demand should it be cheaper than the traditional animal feed products already on the market.
