Russian e-commerce majors are closing deals with alcohol distributors, possibly preparing for the possible legalisation of online alcohol sales, Kommersant daily reported.
As followed by bne IntelliNews, Russia is anticipated to permit online sales of alcohol, which has been discussed by watchdogs since 2020. Allowing online sales of alcohol would be a major boost for e-commerce companies, as well as a catalyst for Red & White wine retailer and distributor, which is reportedly preparing for an IPO.
Now e-commerce major Ozon Holdings has closed a deal with SimpleWine alcohol retailer and distributor, allowing online shoppers to pre-book up to 1,500 articles from the assortment of SimpleWine in Moscow with pick-up, Kommersant writes.
In the meantime, VinLab chain, part of the major distiller Beluga Group, is co-operating with the SberMegaMarter e-commerce platform of Russia's largest state-controlled bank Sber. SberMarket also allows pre-booking of alcohol from Metro, Auchan and Selgros, and other retail chains.
